Linux instead of windows?

Recent moves by Microsoft have made me wonder how long Windows will be around.  The question that remains to be seen is if the gigantic mistake that they call Vista will end up being the demise of Windows.  With the multitude of Linux distributions available either for free, for for a fraction of the cost of Windows, it's only a matter of time before users start switching.  Some of these distributions are getting even easier to use than their far from free counterpart.  Why choose Linux over Windows?

Adblockers - The death of free content?

I am compelled to make this article based off a series of posts on another forum between me and about 5 other people.  My standpoint is that ad blockers are illegal, and will ultimately be the death of free content on the internet.  With the death of free content, will come the end of the internet as we know it.  I know, some of you reading this are thinking that I am nuts, and that I am blowing this out of proportion.  At this very moment, I am blowing it out of proportion, but the use of these ad blockers is sky-rocketing.  Right now by certain estimations, ad blockers only account for about 10% of internet users.  This number will not likely grow too fast, that is until ad blockers come ready activated with browsers.  And what about the ISP's that are installing ad blocking right from the access point, not even giving users the option.  I want to discuss the options that I feel we, as webmasters, have.

All about speed (well, not really) is the first of a multi part series devoted to website performance.  Website performance is as important as content (if not more important)!  Notice I said performance, not speed.  There is a difference, and an important one!  Speed is just one measure of performance.  In this first part, we will discuss the difference between speed and performance, and the basic steps that can be taken to maximize both.

About This Site

Well, I am a professional PHP programmer for a private company here in NJ.  I've been programing for over 17 years in various languages.  About 2.5 years ago, I transitioned into PHP/MySQL development.  On the side, I am webmaster for several live websites, as well as system administrator for a Linux server.  I initially created this website as a means for distrobution of several open-source projects of mine.  I've recently started to expand it to include several tutorials and a support forum.  As I provide these Joomla extensions for free, I appreciate all donations!
