As I said in a previous post, I am currently setting up my new server that will eventually host this site (as well as others). I'm to the point presently that I am done with the major installs, and am working on fine tuning the setup. So last night I downloaded WebLoad to help me find my servers weak points. While I was doing that, the idea came to start testing apache vs. lighttpd. Then I started testing more and more. So here's the plan. I'm going to start benchmarking the differences between Apache and Lighttpd, Joomla and my caching component, and finally (later on), I'm planning on timing every step in Joomla (to find what truely slows Joomla down). The initial results for Apache and Lighttpd are quite interesting. I didn't expect the results (for static html files) to be so dramatic! Stay tuned for more! |

Well, it's been a little over a month since Page Cache version 1.0 was officially released, and it's already at version 1.0.7! I am utterly impressed with how sucessful this component has been. Unless more bugs/features are needed, this will probrably be the last of the 1.0 series for a while. The only real issue that remains is compatability with VirtueMart, and the developers of that component havn't been helpful in my search for a workaround (Not saying they aren't good, but they havn't been able to help me). I must say that I appreciate every donation that people have made! To date, I have received over $250 in donations!!! While this is a drop in the bucket compared to what I could have made if I published this component as a Commercial product, I believe that the community as a whole is the important winner here. To date, there have been over 5400 downloads of the Page Caching component! If you search "Page_Cache By Ircmaxell" in google, well over 300,000 results are returned! I'm proud to be a part of the Joomla community, and hope that the open source trend continues! If you use an open source component, please be sure to donate something to its developer. We need to keep open source alive, and the only way to do that is to keep developers in the open source game! Thanks again for all of your support!

A new idea has spawned. While Joomla is great, it lacks some of the features (and has some incompatabilities with) needed to become a truely 'Enterprise' platform. That's why we've started the project "Enterprise Joomla" or j_enterprise on joomlacode.com. We are looking for developers to join us in creating a truely scalable and stable version of Joomla! Any developers looking for more information, you can check out joomlacode.com, e-mail me, use my forums (for now... hint hint), or check out the topic in the Joomla forums. Keep an eye out for this project, it'll be something worth while... |

Well, another version is here! This one adds two new features to the core. The first is that whenever the cache is cleared, it also clears the Joomla Core Cache. The second is support for loading modules into cached pages (through a special syntax). To do that, install or upgrade to Version 1.0.7, and then edit
your template file. Read more to learn how!
